History of the Youth Section
Glasson Rangers have produced numerous players in the past to the professional game and for
international honours.
The majority of these had come through the youth development structure within the club.
Sadly this development path began to fail with the reduction of volunteers within the club, it resulted
in the club having only one youth team in the late nineties.
This team was coached by William Ostle, or Osca as he is more commonly known.
This team came through the age groups with Osca from Under 8 level to the Under 18 age group.
The highlight of this team was the winning of the Under 16 League Cup Final, beating
Hensingham 22 points to 20 in the 2001/2002 season.
In 2001 the club realised that it needed to invest in young players in order to supply the club with
players in years to come.
With this in mind a Youth Committee was formed, and a recruitment drive organised.
The Youth Section formed its first Under 8 team in 2002 season with 9 players and two coaches.
The Youth Section as continued to expand consistently, with the club now boasting teams at
Under 8, Under 9, Under 11, Under 12, Under 14, and Under 16 age groups.
It as also been actively involved in the formation of girls teams at
Under 12, Under 13, Under 14, and Under 15 age groups.
The number of qualified coaches at the club as grew in relation to the increase in teams, at best we had 17 coaches, this as reduced recently to 10 active coaches who service the youth teams,
It is the clubs aim to continue this development work in order to produce players for the future of the club.
